Who We Are

Dydh da! (Hello!, Cornish)

My name is Leona and The Happy Weigh is my brainchild.

I’m a born and bred St Just-er on a mission to do my bit. Back in 2019 I co-founded the St Just Care and Repair Café, a volunteer-led space which facilitates the mending of broken things. While observing how vital this resource quickly became to the community of St Just, I got a fire in my belly for creating more solutions to the gaps in the community I could see. After becoming increasingly aware of the popularity of ‘refill’ shops throughout the UK I felt inspired to provide the same service in the community I call home.

I felt reassured that a ‘refilling’ revolution was alive and it was definitely something we needed in West-Penwith… And so, The Happy Weigh was born!

Hello!

My name is Shirley and I am Leona’s mum!

I was doing the same mundane factory job for 30 years until I was suddenly made redundant in 2019. Coincidentally at the same time Leona was starting to set up The Happy Weigh. The finishing of my role in the factory opened up for a new beginning. I am Leona’s right hand women in the daily running of the business. You will likely find us together at the market stalls!

Having been brought up in a childhood of make do and mend, second hand was the norm and waste-not-want-not was the key to a happy low-income life. Life felt simple back then and through The Happy Weigh I feel we can revive that simplicity.

Hi my name is Paul and I’m Leona’s husband and I deal with all things website related for the Happy Weigh!

The site is Leona’s grand vision and I’m here to make it happen, lending some creative ideas and solutions along the way.

Originally training as an artist, I went on to have a successful career in Performance Art in a Collaborative Duo travelling the world for 12 years performing in 32 countries.

In 2009, while still performing, I was employed to work on the University College Falmouth website – a Joomla CMS database driven site, which I did until deciding to work self employed in 2010.

From 2010 to 2017 I built numerous sites along side my arts practice and in 2017 I went solely freelance building bespoke websites (using WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, 1&1 etc) for numerous clients both in Europe and in America.

To date I have built all kinds of sites from small Artist Portfolio sites, Online Shops, a Charity website, to fully featured websites for large organisations, and I am am delighted to be looking after this one too!
